🏛️ Championing co-operative housing in Parliament! 🏡🤝![]()
The Confederation of Co-operative Housing was delighted to take part in an All-Party Parliamentary Group on Mutuals meeting in the House of Commons to discuss the future of co-operative housing and the changes needed to help our sector grow.![]()
The meeting provided an important opportunity to highlight two key priorities for the sector:![]()
🔹 Co-operative tenure: Building on our work with the Co-operative Party and Andrew Pakes MP’s 10 Minute Rule Bill in April 2025, we discussed the Government’s stated willingness to legislate for a co-operative housing tenure — an important step towards giving co-operative housing greater recognition and support.![]()
🔹 Access to finance: We need appropriate and affordable funding mechanisms to enable housing co-operatives and community-led housing initiatives to flourish, alongside council housing and other forms of affordable housing.![]()
With over 220 members across the UK, growing international connections and record-breaking attendance at our recent Annual Conference, the co-operative housing movement has much to celebrate — but there is still more to do!![]()
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to benefit from housing that puts people, community and democratic control at its heart. With the right legislation, financing and political support, co-operative housing can play a greater role in delivering genuinely affordable, community-led homes across the UK.![]()
A big thank you to Gareth Thomas MP, Chair of the APPG on Mutuals, and everyone involved in the meeting for helping to keep co-operative housing on the parliamentary agenda.![]()
Together, we can build a stronger future for co-operative housing! 🏡💚 #coophousing
