The theme of our conference this year is Strong Foundations, Sustainable Futures: Building resilient, well-governed co-operatives for the long term. It reflects the challenges and opportunities facing housing co-operatives today. We look forward to bringing our co-operative community together this year to celebrate the vital role we all play in sustainability, and how we foster growth and strengthen community resilience.
As our sector responds to increasing regulatory expectations, financial pressures and changing member needs, the conference will explore how strong governance, sound business planning and investment in people, homes and communities can help co-operatives remain resilient, values-driven and sustainable for generations to come.
Following feedback from last year’s conference, we have refreshed the programme to provide even more opportunities for learning, discussion, and practical takeaways. The day will begin with a plenary session bringing everyone together to explore key developments and opportunities in co-operative housing. For the remainder of the day, delegates can choose from three rounds of workshops across four themed streams: Your Homes, Your Co-operative, Your Business, and Your Future. This new format offers greater flexibility to tailor your conference experience, gain insights from a wider range of topics, and take valuable ideas and resources back to your co-operative.
Preliminary agenda available here.
The conference plenary will bring together leading voices from across the co-operative housing movement to explore the opportunities and innovations shaping its future. The session will examine the evolving landscape of co-operative housing tenure, including recent progress in securing greater government recognition of this distinctive and democratic form of housing. Delegates will also gain insight into the newly updated Co-operative Values and Principles, revised by the International Cooperative Alliance following an extensive global consultation, and consider what these changes mean for co-operative housing in practice. It will also explore emerging opportunities in co-operative housing finance, showcasing innovative funding models, investment approaches, and policy developments that can unlock growth and strengthen the sector’s long-term resilience. Together, these discussions will offer an inspiring and forward-looking perspective on how co-operative housing can expand its impact and meet the housing challenges of the future.
Thanks to sponsorship from North West Housing Services we will be live streaming the plenary this year.
