BUSINESS NOT AS USUAL?

The Confederation of Co-operative Housing held its 18th annual conference at Warwick University, between 22nd and 24th July. The theme of the conference was Business ~~not~~ as usual? to reflect the fact that what seemed to have been certainties a year ago are now anything but, and whether the changes will affect housing co-ops - or is it just business as usual?

The conference was attended by well over 70 people from housing co-ops, community gateway organisations and service agencies from around the country. It kicked off on the Friday with inspirational presentations from Starley Housing Co-operative in Coventry and RCT Homes in South Wales. Keynote speakers included Abigail Davies from the Chartered Institute of Housing and Paul Spooner from the Homes and Communities Agency.

As well as workshops on good practice and skills issues for co-ops, topics discussed included the CCH accreditation programme - the new regulatory framework for co-ops, the environmental work of the Greener Living programme, and the opportunities for building new co-operative homes – a workshop that was packed to the rafters and generated huge interest from delegates.
