Confederation of Co-operative Housing
UK organisation for housing co-operatives, tenant-controlled housing organisations and regional federations of housing co-ops (one of the three national tenant organisations).

Community Gateway Association

financial intermediary providing 12 month mortgage interest guarantees to housing co-operatives.

CLG
Communities and Local Government (previously called ODPM - Office for the Deputy Prime Minister)
the part of the civil service that has responsibility for housing and environmental issues. The Housing Corporation is part of the ODPM.
CLT
Community Land Trust
non-profit making community-driven organisation - a mechanism for the democratic ownership and use of land by the local community (see Mutual Home Ownership).
CTE
Community Training & Enabling grant
a grant regime that the Housing Corporation introduced in 2000 to enable RSLs, RSL tenants, RSL staff etc to do something in relation to Community Training and Enabling, and assist tenants to establish organisations and ideas themselves. (NB – doesn’t exist any more)
DETR
Dept of Environment Transport & the Regions
(now called ODPM - Office for the Deputy Prime Minister)
the part of the civil service that has responsibility for housing and environmental issues. The Housing Corporation is part of the ODPM.
EMB
Estate Management Board
a model for setting up TMOs which involves having a majority of tenants and council representation on the board of management.
HCA
Homes and Communities Agency
Europe's largest housing and regeneration agency. It has the responsibility for delivering the Government's housing and regeneration programmes with a budget of over £5 billion and a remit which includes supporting the delivery of three million new homes by 2020.
ICA
International Co-operative Alliance
independent, non-governmental association which unites, represents and serves co-operatives worldwide, CCH is a member of the Housing Sector branch.
IGP

a Housing Corporation grant for RSLs.
IPPR

Regional federation affiliated to CCH.

Local Government Association
the organisation that represents local authorities.
MHO
Mutual Home Ownership
new form of mutual home ownership co-operative enabling residents to have an equity stake in their home, used in combination with a Community Land Trust [see CLT]

National Federation of Tenant Management Organisations
the organisation that represents tenant management co-ops, estate management boards and other forms of tenant management organisations in England.
NHF
National Housing Federation
the organisation that represents 1,300 not-for-profit housing associations in England and campaign for better housing and neighbourhoods.
NTV
National Tenants Voice
independent, tenant-led, non departmental social housing watchdog that will crack down on registered social landlords in England who are giving tenants a poor service.
ODPM

OPM
Office for Public Management
a research organisation that published 'Models for resident controlled housing' for the Housing Corporation.
PVC
Par-value Co-op
Fully-mutual ownership housing co-ops where all tenants are members who have a £1 stake in the co-op, and where all members are tenants or prospective tenants.
RCHA
Resident Controlled Housing Association
a housing association that has a majority of tenants on the board of management.
RDA
Regional Development Agency
regional organisations set up by government to develop economic and social solutions for each region.
RP
Registered provider
what housing associations, councils, co-ops and other providers of social rented housing will be called under the TSA
RSL
Registered Social Landlord
Housing organisations registered with the Housing Corporation / HCA.
RTM
Right to Manage
the legal right that enables council tenants to set up TMOs.
SEU
Social ExclusIon Unit
The organisation set up by government to look at solutions to social exclusion.
STATUS SURVEYS
A survey of your tenants used to report on tenant satisfaction and performance.
TAROE
Tenants and Residents Organisations of England
the national umbrella organisation for Tenants and Residents Associations within England.
TMC
Tenant Management Co-operative
a model for setting up TMOs based on the co-operative model.
TMO
Tenant Management Organisation
collective name for tenant organisations which manage properties through a management agreement with the landlord, either the council or a housing association.
TSA
Tenants Service Authority
independent regulatory body with powers to cut red tape for registered social landlords and wider ranging ability to take action where tenants are not getting a fair deal (formerly the regulation department of the Housing Corporation).
UKCC
United Kingdom Co-operative Council
the organisation that brings together the different co-operative sectors.
