Annual report - June 2007

Introduction

As always, its been a busy year where the CCH has continued to provide support to its members, whilst keeping the flag flying for co-op housing.

CCH membership

The CCH continues to provide assistance and support to housing co-op and other members. Providing advice on policies, housing co-op tenancies, choice-based lettings, developing new homes are some of the queries dealt with this year.

Submissions

During the year, the CCH has made submissions to:

With TAROE and the NFTMOs, we gave evidence to the Supply of Rented Housing enquiry.

We also held the well attended Involving Tenants in Decision-Making seminar for co-op and housing association tenants on the Housing Corporation's Resident Involvement Policy.

Community Gateway

This year will see three more Community Gateways set up in Watford, Braintree & Lewisham, as well as two Community Mutuals (the Welsh equivalent) in Rhondda Cynon Taf and Torfaen. The CCH continues to liaise with the existing Community Gateways, and to promote and publicise the model.

Co-op movement

The CCH continues to work with the co-op movement through the Co-operative Housing Group, consisting of representatives from Co-ops UK, Co-op Party, Co-op Bank and others.

Key issues considered this year have included Community Land Trusts / Mutual Home Ownership and Community Gateway.

We are now considering a joint CCH & Co-ops UK membership approach, and forming a co-op movement Co-operative Housing Commission to report to Co-op Congress in 2008.

Working with the NFTMOs

We continue to work well with our partners in the NFTMO, working with them on a number of issues mentioned in this report, as well as supporting them with advice and proposals regarding the current Housing Corporation review of tenant management for housing associations and local authorities.
