Annual report - June 2005
CCH progress
The CCH's programme has continued apace during the last year, consisting primarily of:
- developing & supporting programmes & initiatives developed in previous years
- developing a new strategy for community controlled housing
- working on a programme to engage with the CCH membership
- working in partnership with Co-operatives UK to establish a Co-op Housing Group
- working in partnership with the National Federation of Tenant Management Organisations on various joint agendas
A new Community Controlled Housing Strategy
The CCH developed its initial "Tenants Taking Control" strategy in 1995. Ten years later and work is now underway to develop a new strategy in partnership with the NFTMOs and the Co-operative Housing Group. Key elements in the strategy will include:
- community control, the future of council housing & Community Gateway
- mutual home ownership
- building new community controlled affordable housing
- improving the ways that we operate
- engaging with potential partner organisations
CCH membership
The CCH commissioned Birmingham Co-operative Housing Services to engage with the CCH's membership and potential membership. The purpose of this project was to explore the national position regarding housing co-ops and to consider how the CCH could best respond to our membership's wishes and aspirations.
Generally the results of this programme were positive, with the majority of CCH members supporting the CCH's programme.
The Co-operative Housing Group
In partnership with Co-ops UK, we have established a Co-operative Housing Group, chaired by Andy Love MP, and bringing together representatives from CCH, Co-ops UK, the Co-op Party, the Co-op Bank, the Nationwide Building Society, and co-op housing support organisations. The group is working to develop an agenda to support co-operation in housing.
Working with the NFTMO
The CCH has been working in close partnership with our sister organisation, the National Federation of Tenant Management Organisations, on the following joint initiatives:
- a conference held in May 2005
- a joint approach to newsletters
- the community control strategy
- joint governance issues
