CCH Bulletin Summer 2000

Service Agency Research

The CCH's research into service provision to housing co-ops is nearing completion.

This project is investigating what services are currently being provided by agencies and how they are being provided. It is investigating best practice in terms of value for money, in terms of facilitating the maximisation of tenant involvement and is identifying the elements in service provision that have lead to successful performance within co-ops. Conclusions will be drawn from successful provision that could be of use to other social landlords that are working towards tenant control and involvement and of use to co-ops and agencies in the future.

The project is being undertaken in 2 stages. An initial survey was sent out to service agencies and housing co-ops. In total, 13 agencies that provide services to 175 co-ops responded. Information was also received from 107 of those co-ops, who operate in 36 local authorities across the country.

A representative sample of 8 service agencies was then selected for follow up interviews. Members of the co-ops they service were also interviewed. So far 7 sets of interviews have been conducted.

It is envisaged that the findings of the research will be published in the autumn.
